Is it possible to vulcanize two pieces of rubber together without the aid of adhesive?

vulcanizing doesn't use glue of sorts but does use a cleaner to make sure you don't have air pockets when finished. vulcanizing is heating rubber to soft consistency and melting it together with another piece of rubber, usually under pressure so when you heat the rubber make sure you have a clamp that will cover the joint and create a good seam.
