Why does my transmission kick out of overdrive kick out of overdrive about 10 miles down the road?

my mercury sable shifts great through all the gears it is automatic but it seems like when it warms up about 15-20 minutes down the road it kicks down into 3rd gear and stays there could it be a censor or somthing not sure pleas help
